Today is #LabWasteDay!

This means that scientists all over the world are spreading awareness about the insane amount of plastic waste produced by laboratory work.

They do this by posting pictures of their plastic waste under the hashtag #LabWasteDay on Twitter and Instagram. You should go check it out by the end of the day!

HERE´S A FEW TIPS ON HOW TO REDUCE PLASTIC WASTE IN THE LAB:

1️. You can buy consumables in bulk to reduce wrapping materials

2️. You can reuse single-use items such as cell scrapers, conical tubes, pipette tip boxes and scalpels

3️. You can buy products with reduced plastic content

4️. You can substitute certain plastic items for glass (but remember to autoclave it only when needed and be careful not to break the glass)

5️. You can put pressure on the suppliers by asking them to introduce takeback programs and to reduce plastic content in their products. The suppliers are much more likely to go green if they know that their customers care about sustainability!
